Languages and Sports Holiday Clubs

I started my career as a manager at Camp Suisse, an International Summer Camp in Switzerland. Their aim was to provide their campers, many of whom from privileged backgrounds, with an unforgettable Summer experience which combined language learning, sports and outdoor adventures. Having completed my teacher training through Teach First, I have had the opportunity to work with children from some of the most underprivileged of backgrounds in South East London. Despite the wealth of experiences that London has to offer, family circumstances often mean that underprivileged children miss out on these opportunities. This is part of the reason why I set up the Languages and Sports for All Holiday Club at Kelvin Grove Primary School, with the aim that all children should have access to rich learning experiences beyond the classroom. Unlike many other holiday clubs, we aim to make it as affordable as possible, with a day's care with a rich and varied programme of activities for the price of just £20. I hope one day soon to be able to offer a number of funded places to ensure we adhere to our vision.

Inspired by Camp Suisse's rich and varied programme, we offer a morning of language learning and sports coaching, followed by an afternoon which aims to make the best use of what the local area has to offer and to develop essential skills such as team work, problem solving and navigation. So far this has included: trips to the Horniman Museum and Gardens and Crystal Palace Park Farm; nature walks in Sydenham Woods; a Sports Day at Well's Park; shelter building; orienteering; team building games; nature art and many more! We are gradually investing in equipment in order to increase the range of activities we offer. At our next club we will be trialling Circus Skills and Pond Dipping.

In using the local area and making the most of what the area has to offer free-of-charge, we are able to keep the price of the club affordable. We hope that this makes the club accessible to as many families as possible, so that all children, despite their background, can benefit from the rich learning and life experiences the club offers.

Our next and third Holiday Club takes place next half-term from 13th-17th February. Places are still available! Click HERE to find out more.
